"My First Band"

This is the first in a series of installation pieces. Title of this work: "My First Band" Materials used include: Vintage player piano sheet music, musical instruments and found objects.
This piece was inspired by musical instruments a young child would have had. I found these instruments at a local resale shop here in Austin, Texas. They were donated in a box that was very worn but inside each piece had been carefully wrapped like all of our Mother's have done in the past holding onto maybe what we might think insignificant items. To a parent, they are precious memories of our childhood.
The box was marked "Sam."
I found it so touching that even though there are no longer strings on the violin, the tambourine has been ducked taped to reinforce the tares and the Drums no longer beat, these pieces were played and enjoyed.
For whatever reason they ended up in a donation drop off site. Someone had taken the time to care for these memories and I find it so rewarding to put it back out there for all those who appreciate the idea of renewing and bringing new life to simple items that once belonged to a boy named "Sam."
